biography

Melbourne’s busiest man in punk, Luke Seymoup, was once described as “weird but cool” by WWE Superstar, Zack Ryder. This summary encapsulates Luke’s eccentricity, earnestness, humour and talent in a mere three words. With a sound that could be compared to a “punked-up” They Might Be Giants or as My Chemical Romance as filtered through the mind of Evan Dando, Luke has spent the last decade prolifically releasing music that mixes elements of punk, ska, indie and heartland rock.

Using music as a form of catharsis, Luke writes bittersweet music for outsiders and oddballs. His lyrical tales of pain and suffering are set to upbeat, danceable music to help people feel good about feeling awful.

Backed by his 4-piece band of misfits, Luke released his debut LP “The Professional” in 2017. Since then, he has embarked on multiple tours of Australia and released a barrage of diverse and unexpected records, all sounding characteristically Seymoup, that have endeared him to his fans and supporters. These include the all-ukulele mini-LP “Uke Seymoup” (2018), Ska-Opera “Burnett Street” (2018) and Nintendo-Punk concept album, “Poke’Gods” (2019).

In 2021, Luke is gearing up for the release of his second full-length, “Tales of Suburban Angst,” with his backing band (affectionately referred to by fans as the Moup Group). The songs on this LP have been carefully developed by the group over the last few years to make them the lushest arrangements the band has ever produced. The record demonstrates the band in its prime, showing the best of each of its individual members and creating a collection of songs that are memorable, fun and emotionally impactful.

Luke’s mission is to truly solidify punk as a songwriter’s genre by creating songs that are deep and moving. He will not sleep until he has dealt an emotionally crushing blow to each and every listener, changing everything they think they know about punk rock!
